Penthouse Renovation: From empty shell to sophisticated sanctuary with antique European accents and sky-high luxury

With 10-foot ceilings and a penthouse that required a full renovation, the client had a clear vision: to create a distinctive space that balanced sleek black cabinetry, warm white oak flooring, and hand-glazed white tile. The result is nothing short of stunning — a true one-of-a-kind home. All antique lighting fixtures, originally from the owner’s childhood cottage in Ontario, were carefully rewired to meet CSA standards, presenting a unique challenge that Güte embraced wholeheartedly.
In the bar area just off the kitchen, an ornate antique metal gate — once part of an old elevator in France — was meticulously refurbished and installed on a custom track. Every square inch of the residence was maximized, requiring creative problem-solving throughout. Even the delivery of materials became an adventure, with many items craned up to the top floor when the elevator and stairs proved unusable.
